Readers of The Tire Swing : A Memoir About Survival
Jimmer
Very engaging story, nice style of writing, kept me wanting to know more. She is so real with her story but never seems to degrade those who have harmed her. An amazing trait. It seems that Mother, Father, Daughter all had two sides to their personality. Able to be pleasant, happy, while suffering abuse and terror from with in the family structure. The mother constantly leaving her daughters to fend for themselves was horrifying to me. Certainly shows how we marry a man like our fathers. I think she just needed to get away form her family so that she married the next boy/man who gave her the needed attention and love. She tells us that having a desire to be known in a career, wanting it so badly, keeps a person hiding her real life for the job.
How much physical and mental abuse can a person stand and keep going with it, all the while able to prove herself to be functional and excellent in her professional life? Nancy did it over the years, in all her life, just kept going and not telling anyone of her strife of her heartache. There must be others out there doing the same. When she realizes that Jesus was missing in the life she was leading, she wants to change but still finds it so difficult to end the horror she has made for herself. She could/ should have died from the terrible life she was leading and the terrible malnutrition her body was in. She is blessed to be telling the story. I was glad to see that she came out in the end as everyone can only if they will. An amazing story of courage and desire for peace.

This is a brutally honest, shocking, heartbreaking, but also an encouraging and uplifting story about how a woman raised by a fractured family, left to her own devices when a young child, abused mentally and physically, became an addict, then rose above that damage and pain to become sober, and mend those relationships she damaged. Nancy chronicles her life with such skilled writing that you are brought into her painful world and are able to feel what she felt. She was ultimately saved by faith, support of friends and family, and a strength unsurpassed by few people. We can all learn many lessons from this beautiful memoir.

I think this story would mark a good movie. Held my interest…..couldn’t put the book down. The author has lived an incredible life with many hardships and addiction, yet has been very successful. A very strong person.

I had a hard time putting this book down and I felt really drawn into it.
After finishing this book, I had to stop and give thanks for all the people in my life who gave me a chance. I too have stuggled with addiction and abuse and could identify with the feelings and little nuggets of truth within. I cannot wait to read more from this author.
Thank you for being so brave and putting it out for all of us to read.

I read this book in a matter of 2 days. Just when I think things are slowing down, or calming down, another wrench is thrown in it! I loved every moment of reading this book. I have learned more about “Life.” I never thought or looked at my life in depth, but I know feel motivated to do so. I think Nancy did a fantastic job of pulling in real life situations amd making it easy for the reader to understand. Wow, what she has experienced and been through. It was like you were with her, right beside her! I just cannot tell you how much this book changed my life. THANKS NANCY!!!
